Heart Tattoos

Heart tattoos are quite popular, not just in America, but all around the world. This is because the symbol of the heart reflects that sense of love that is appealing to people worldwide. However, as popular as the heart is, it does not really have an interpretation in the global sense. The heart, as a symbol, actually has many meanings, as far as different cultures go.

Interestingly, it is actually how people perceive the design that makes the heart have different meanings and interpretations. For starters, a heart that has a knife, dagger, or sword piercing its middle can be a symbol of betrayal. This interpretation is very popular on its own. Still, there are people who see this symbol as courage amidst misfortune. Despite being stabbed, the heart remains in existence, which denotes the aspect of courage.

If you want a design that gives that sense of being carefree and optimistic, then you might want to consider getting a heart tattoo that has wings. This design would look especially stunning at the lower portion of the back. A heart can then symbolize romantic love with a rose entwined around its body. When paired with other symbols, the heart takes on a new meaning as well.

For starters, if you pair the heart design with an angel, then the whole design could symbolize one’s pure spirit. Pairing it with a dolphin, on the other hand, can represent love for the ocean and the animals that dwell in it. Last, but definitely not the least, would be the broken heart design. Now, this represents the epitome of unrequited love to the nth degree. Grief and remorse are usually associated with this particular design.

So many meanings can definitely be coined with the heart design. This can probably be attributed to the fact that the heart, as a symbol, has been used since around the time of the last Ice Age. Yes, it has been used as early as that! However, there really is no definite meaning that can be coined to its usage at that time.

Over time, the symbol of the heart gained popularity and harvested a wide array of designs as well. But when it came to the heart tattoo, the Celtic and Tribal designs are the most popular. What makes them popular, aside from the intricacy of Celtic and Tribal designs, is the fact that hearts do give off a sense of warmth and spirit. These make the heart design very popular among tattoo enthusiasts worldwide.
